Investigation Committee Formed Again in the Incident of Journalist Torture at Jashore Science and Technology University (JUST)

Jashore Science and Technology University (JUST) has formed an investigation committee once again in the incident of journalist torture, orchestrated by the Chhatra League . The committee was formed under the supervision of Dr. Md. Ashrafuzzaman Jahid, the Hall Provost of the university. According to the report of the committee, submitted on Monday (June 19), four prominent members of the higher-level investigation committee have been appointed by the university administration. The committee has been instructed to submit the investigation report within the next 7 working days.

On Saturday (July 8, 2023), an office order was sent to the affected journalist, confirming the matter. According to the signed order by the university's Registrar Engineer Md. Ahsan Habib, it is known that the committee has been formed with Professor Dr. Mohammad Ikbal Kabir Jahid, the Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and a member of the Board of Regents, as the convener, and Mohammad Abdur Rahim, the Senior Administrative Officer of the Ragister Office, as the Secretary.

In addition, the committee includes Professor Dr. Syed Mohammad Galib, Chairman of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and a member of the Board of Regents, and Dr. Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, Chairman of the Marketing Department and a member of the Board of Regents.

It is worth mentioning that on May 22, 2023, at around 2 pm, when Jashore University Journalists' Association's Vice-President and a reporter of Daily Campus Jahurul Islam was returning from the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Academic Building to the Hall of Martyr Mosiur Rahman, several activists of the Chhatra League blocked him at the entrance of the hall and physically and mentally tortured him with abusive language and indecent behavior. The President of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS) of the Hall, Asif Al Mahmud, and Chhatra League activist Belal Hossain were involved in the incident.

In this incident, the Hall Provost Dr. Ashrafuzzaman Jahid had informed the affected journalist about the dissatisfaction with the investigation report of the investigation committee formed by him. Later, he formed a new higher-level investigation committee and applied to Yashor Science and Technology University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. M. Anwar Hossain, for the investigation.
